Outreach Projects

Below are listed a number of possibilities for parishioners to become involved in minisistries that serve people outside our parish membership.

An Opportunity for Outreach in Immigration Ministry

Volunteers needed for the "Welcome Center"

at Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma

Volunteers are needed to assist with a unique ministry to people who have been detained at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. On July 15, 2015 Bishop Elizondo blessed and dedicated a mobile home as a new “Welcome Center” equipped to assist people who have no family or friends nearby when released from the Detention Center (about 10% of the population).

The Welcome Center is in need of volunteers (bilingual preferred, but anyone is welcome) to help run the Center 3:00PM – 7:00PM daily. The Center also is accepting donations of supplies to stock the shelves: water bottles, coffee, sugar, juice, instant soup, etc. Gifts of clothing will be graciously received because many of the people are released with only the clothes they were wearing when detained. Monetary donations will be used to purchase bus passes, food vouchers, and additional supplies.

Hospice Volunteers Needed

Hospice Volunteers Provide a Special Kind of Caring

The CHI Franciscan hospice volunteer program is always looking for volunteers to enhance the compassionate care we offer our hospice patients and families.

Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care exists to affirm life and give meaning to death. We work together as a team of professionals and volunteers to discover and meet the unique needs of hospice patients and their families, providing them with both practical and emotional support.

Qualified volunteers must:

  • be available to volunteer up to four hours a week for one year
  • have the ability to listen with empathy and without judgment
  • have respect for all people no matter their creed, culture, gender or lifestyle
  • maintain confidentiality
  • complete the screening, training, reporting and ongoing education required of all volunteers

Catholic Community Services Needs Foster Parents!

At CCS our goal is to provide children in foster care with a safe, stable, and loving place to call home while their family works to reunify and bring their children home. Children and families involved with the foster care system have experienced trauma. At CCS we focus on minimizing that trauma and moving the family more quickly towards resolution. Further, we focus on minimizing the number of placement changes, or moves, that a child in foster care experiences. We work diligently to support our foster families as they help the children in their care through this difficult time in their lives. Ideally, we are able to place children in foster families within their own communities. This enables them to remain in familiar surroundings and most importantly to stay in their own schools.

What We Need:

We need families that are willing to open their hearts and their homes to a child in need. In 2013 there were 9326 children in foster care in Washington State alone. There are not enough foster homes in our state to adequately provide stable placements for every child in care. As a state, as a community, as an organization we believe we can do better but we need your help.

What You Can Do:

Call us today at 253-502-2650. We are looking for loving, caring adults who are willing to become licensed foster parents. Given the diversity of our programs we are almost certain to be able to find one that would interest you.
